Okay - so here's the story -- I hear a noise, that sounds a bit like a bottle caps rolling around in an aluminum can - between 1300-1500 rpm, and again around 2100[sometimes]...
The car has just under 90000kms or 55000miles. It hasn't ever been driven in snow, and only been caught in the rain once or twice.
It's regularly maintained, and not abused. 6 SPD Manual, adjustable suspension.
I've had my mechanic cruise around - but he doesn't hear very well [I'm looking for a new mechanic].
So I took to recording it via digital video camera. I can hear it just fine, and with my limited skill tried to articulate the noise on this video.
Please, if you can hear it - or have heard the similar noise - I'd love to have some insight. If you think I'm nuts - stand in line with my wife - she'll agree with you.
IF,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, you have the OEM mid pipe with the "H" pipe,, it is well known to produce a noise simular to that noise. Do your self a favor and get a deicent CAT back system that includes a set of CATS and a X pipe with some FREE FLOWING Mufflers and see if that corrects the issue.
I'll bet that fixes it. I have the same sound, it's either my H pip or a broken little piece inside one of my cats.
It took me awhile to figure out that's where it was coming from cause the sound was so odd. One day it was making the noise pretty loud while I was sitting at a stop light...lol. no BS, I pulled the E brake and jumped out and laid on the ground all around the car...
well, i do hear something. it's hard to tell sometimes if it's 'microphone noise' or car noise. i have what they're saying about the mid-pipe noise i think. it's sort of like a jingling noise, like a washer on a loose bolt. it does it usually when decelerating and when you shut the engine off.

My 99 does it when I shut it off or when I give it a little throttle (sitting still, up to 1500 rpms). It sounds unhealthy and I want to get rid of it. I have noticed if I baby the car around for a few days the sounds go away, but when I get on it the sound comes back. I have aftermarket exhaust (Corsa), and I do experience the drone at 1700-1800 rpms, but the drone is different. If the rattling is a normal sound, how do I fix it? I want this car to last forever and be as healthy as possible. Thanks!

i wish i knew what it was. i've been told if i get an aftermarket h-pipe it'll go away.[?] it's a very strange sound to be making if nothing's loose, and i don't think there is.
