It could also be just your key being dirty or a bad ignition switch or just a broken little part in the ignition switch itself.
Check codes first, if none...I'd say more than likely your starter if you're hearing a click.
See if you can get someone to turn the key while you listen down by the back of the passenger side of the engine, down low. That's where the starter resides.
Check out this article. Same thing happened to me last year. I thought it was the wires from the battery to the starter but ended up being the starter. Bought a used one off of this site for $50. Easy swap just make sure to keep the wires off of the manifold/headers
Yeah man, if you're hearing a click from the engine compartment. My bet would be either battery or starter/solenoid.
Your C 1232 code is unrelated.
I can't find B 1001 or U 1244...the U code is more than likely some type of loss of communication. Possibly with your TCS module due to the C 1232 and U 1301. the other U code is common and not something to worry about.
Get the battery tested and make sure it's good, if it's not the battery...get your starter out and tested as I'm pretty sure that's it.
Take the battery out and have it load tested. Had an identical thing happen to my truck last week. Battery measured 12.67 with a digital meter across the posts yet when you turned the key there was total silence. Load test showed it was internally failed. New battery and it started right up.
Also if it has failed internally then jup starting may not work either, had that happen when trying to jump start a truck. The other vehicle was running fine but the battery in the truck wouldnt allow the starter to work for some reason.

I'd say give the tap with a hammer a shot first. just tap on it a few times while someone holds the key in the start position.
MAKE SURE THE PERSON STARTING THE KEY HAS THE CAR IN NEUTRAL, E BRAKE SET ETC.. if you have a 6 spd.

The hammer thing doesnt work all the time, we had a samurai(yes I know embarrasing but i learned how to drive stick on it so...) that the starter went out on and once in a while the hammer thing worked but not even 50% and on out tractor it didnt work at all.

yeah, well it's free. it's worth a shot because if it works you know it's a the solenoid. it worked on SBC's great tons of times.

Yea it doesnt hurt but I was just stating that it doesnt work all the time and if you go and hit it when its just the batter you could mess it up, and it doesnt cost to get your system check at an auto parts store.
if he can get it there
If you don't do the WHACK TEST to the starter,,,,,,, your NEVER going to be able to pin point the issue. If you whack the starter when it wont crank and it cranks when you whack the starter,,,,the solenoid IS the issue. Plain and simple. bad solenoids are a well documented issue and intermittent no stats are the most common solenoid fault.
You also need to inspect the wiring on the solenoid to make sure that the wires are clean and tight:
The starter it self is pretty bullet proof. I replaced my bad solenoid and Problem solved!

well you are probably going to want to go buy a new solenoid since that is about the only thing that would do that, besides dirty contacts, and you dont want it to happen again when you arent at home. Plus they arent that expensive 50-75$
Mr. Curlee, as most memebers would agree you have saved us lots of $$$ and headaches and thanks! Your info helped me much! My 1998 C5 has an intemittent no start which appears to be aggravated if i dont use the car for 3 or 4 days. NO codes/repeat NO codes. with the forums help i changed my ignition switch. seemed okay for a few starts on the same day I changed the switch but then problem surfaced again a few hours later- it is a simple: turn key to start and starter wont engage/nothing happens. Since everything is still apart i figured to change the cylinder but have not done this yet. Next is to clean/check all grounds as this seems to be a problem with C5s- one last piece of info (and all the forum members will kick my you know what for this: I do drive on a dirt road (scraped) to get to and from my house about 2 miles of this road each direction. Only other piece of info i could add (also why i think i need to inspect/change/clean all the grounds) is i also get intermittent (but almost only occurs after i hit a bump) service abs or charge system fault message, but again NO codes.
Had the same situation. Turned out the floor mat had folded over and kept the clutch pedal from going all the way in and making the safety switch that prevents engine start. I had just replaced the battery and thought the new one was bad. A bunch of stuff turns off, like the blower motor, etc when you crank the engine, so you think you have a bad battery.
Felt really smart when I figured that one out! Wife even noticed the carpet as I was pawing around looking for fuses. She said "maybe that's it!" (turns out it was. I got "told ya so" 's all the way home).

Owe you a beer! Thanks George
George,
You've got a few different issues bud. Start another thread and list them somewhat separate so it will be a little easier to sort.
One thing, when your "service ABS, service traction control system" message appears in the DIC. YOU DO HAVE A CODE. Check by pressing and holding number 4 and simultaneously pressing number 1 four times.
Start one up in this section but this would be best dealt with in another thread I think as some of your issues are unrelated to this one..
