Can someone explain the idle relearn procedure for me? I'm installing the Donaldson Blackwing this week and have been told that I need to do the relearn procedure. Are any special tools required? :D
The learned idle procedure needs to be done if any of the following events occur:
The powertrain control module (PCM) is disconnected
The battery is disconnected
The PCM loses power
The PCM is reprogrammed
The Air intake is modified
The engine idle is unstable when the learned idle position is lost. There are several methods for doing the procedure. No special tools required. These archive posts run the gambit of the ways people do the relearn:
FYI...I recently installed a Donaldson on my 02 Vert.I disconnected the negative battery cable.I did not need to do the idle relearn procedure ...IMHO "if it ain't broke-don't fix it" :seeya
Not sure about this either. Is it documented in the service manual? Nothing in the owner's manual even though it recommends battery disconnect for several things.
Installed the Blackwing two weeks ago on my '01 MN6. Read that disconnecting the battery was optional and that the idle relearn may be necessary for A4 cars so I did neither. No problems so far after about 200 miles.
