I have C6 rims on my C5. I never noticed that the rears are offset a little further in untill this weekend when I was parked next to a buddies vette. I remember a thread about spacers, but cant find it under the search. What size spacers would I use to bring the wheels out the right distance? would using them weaken the wheel tire assembly at all?
You can use 1/4 inch spacers without having to replace the wheel studs. Another option is to use an adapter of 1 inch or greater. These bolt directly on the present studs and have their own integral replacement studs.
I am surprised that you noticed a big visual difference between your friends car and yours. This is a picture of my C5 with the original C5 polished wheels.
For comparison, this is a picture of OEM C6 rear wheels on the same car, with no spacer. I really can't see much difference in how the wheels look in the wheel well.
C6 wheels will usually fit on a C5 but will set very close to the inner wheel wells. On some C5s, the wheels may rub. The OEM C6 wheels have an offset of 79mm versus 63mm for the C5 wheels. Thus the C6 wheels will set 0.45 inches closer to the rear wheel wells than the c5s. However, since the C6 wheels are 0.5 inches wider, the physical appearance is not that much different.
