Default brake vents

hey guys, i know the zo6 c5s and zo6 and zr1 c6s all have vents on them to keep the back brakes cool, but the standard c5 does not. can i cut the panal on my car and get the black pick up to put on for this, or is there other stuff under the paneling in the way? or does it take an entirely new side panel?

basically, can i put brake vents on my c5 if it doesnt have them?

thanks,
Danny

Default Rear Brake Vents

After market Corvette shops and dealers have the parts that include a temeplate to mount the vent. It's not hard to do but careful planning will make them look real good. Also, the area behind the proposed location is clear. No temeplate exist for the duct to go through the wheel well so be carefull.

Many folks have posted that starting with 2001 (the year the Z06 came out) all rear wheel liners have the cut marks for the ducts scribed on them.

I put the rear brake ducts on mine. All I can say is that it takes guts to drill a hole in a perfectly good Corvette!

I did the conversion you're talking about very recently.
It's remarkably simple to do. Just measure twice and cut once.
The templates are available here and for free. They worked just fine.

I have BRAND NEW c5 zo6 ducts I don't need that I'd like to get rid of.
All you'll need are some scoops and you're good...assuming you use your rear fenderwells and cut them out.

Let me know...or anyone who's looking for new OEM ducts...

Do you ever run the car hard enough to need rear brake venting?

chance are you want the vents just for looks, which they do look pretty cool. but i would think twice before zippin through the fender just for rear brake vents, it could turn into a headache real fast.
if i where to do it, i would go to a swap and get the parts cheap, maybe even order some wide panels for on stand by just incase the dremel goes nuts.

I am not sure but it seems to be that in recent times, many new members seem to be living from pay check to pay check. It's pretty easy to read between the lines. Not like it was 10 years ago with the initial members who bought a C5. Many seems to want to cheapest, with little or no regard for quality. But to the point. The rear brake ducts are functional, but only for a very few applications.. They are basically for cosmetic looks. Cutting a hole in the rocker should not be an issue, unless of course, you do not have any hand skills. No matter what, if you do a bad job, you just have to pay someone to fix it. If you have no hand skills, just have a shop install them. I never did any body work in my life and wanted to try this..I did it 8 years ago, I did the cutting and all the body work. It was fun and very rewarding. IN the last 8 years Ive had many many PM's telling me that I gave many folks the inspiration to do this. Personally I do not like the Stock Z06 ducts because they are made of very soft ABS, and they look like they were sand blasted only after a year or so. I used BPP ducts which are much harder Fiberglass, hand glassed them into the existing rocker and molded them by hand. This is an option for those who want a better quality duct, and one that doesn't look like an add -on.

This post was just to offer an option to the Z06 style of duct.

That Red Vette does look good!!! The instructions for the functional Z06 Ducts are on 97Vette.com and it does look pretty easy.
