Default clutch?

Sorry in advance if this info is located somewhere else, looking for a heavy duty clutch for C5, would prefer to have one recommended then take a shot in the dark. Just street use only, I want something with a little more pedal resistance/performance over stock. Also, has anyone taken this on themselves? Not afraid of it, have service manuals, more curious if there is a suitable substitute for special tools required/listed in the manuals....

SDPC has a good deal on the LS7 clutch kit w/ lightweight flywheel, <$600 including bolts. Add a new GM slave cyl while you're in there. It's rated for a lot more power than your engine makes and user feedback has been very favorable. I've been running this clutch w/ the heavy GM flywheel for nearly 2 years and it's been great.

Another user here thoroughly documented and photographed a DIY clutch swap, not sure of his name but you should be able to find it w/ some searching.

The only GM/SPX tool I've used in my clutch swaps is the rear main crank seal installer, can't beat that sucker for pulling the new seal into place without folding the seal lip.

Do a search for my username and clutch install. I don't have the link at work but it's been posted a billion times over the years.

LS7 is a good clutch for someone without huge power and especially for street use. I have one that I'm gonna put in my Camaro (daily driver).

As far as special tools go, check out the guide. I only used a flywheel holder and a Ford AC/fuel line tool to remove the slave cylinder easily.

Dope's very comprehensive clutch install guide is not to be found at the fear.net site he linked.

Here's the one I was thinking of:

Helped a friend put in a C6Z06 fidanza 2.1 (IIRC is a slightly stronger then stock C6Z) clutch and flywheel in his 02. it does have a sprung hub, solid disc and a slightly heaver then stock pressure plate but not enough to wear you out in stop and go traffic... Feels good, slightly heavier then my stock '04 Z. MUCH easier to drive then the one we took out and holds the power of his Turbo LS1 (~600hp/tq). he got it threw summit racing (matched other online add price for same kit). After problems with his previous lightened flywheel we opted for a standard steel flywheel.

Very Good driveability and economically affordable.

Sears has these little white plastic rings for quick disconnect fittings. I got my master/slave disconnected in under a minute. I also used their blind hole puller to remove the pilot bearing. After the horror stories, these two things were so easy, but the rest of the job is a nightmare.
