On today the pump on my 2004 with 19k miles started humming. Is there something that I can add to the fuel to quiet it down? I have read other threads that say the earlier vettes 97 and 98 made this noise. Is this normal it was quiet until today. Thanks in advance.
Just kidding - mine make a little noise too, it is a 2004, gets a little more noticable below 1/2 tank of gas. I'm not going to worry about it until the dealership has to drop the tanks for the cracked crossover pipe that others have had.
If it get's bad enough, I'll get a louder exhaust system.
I found this info on another site. they said to use 1 oz. of Lucas UCL per 5 gallons of gasoline or Marvel mystery oil, same dosage and it will quiet the pump. Any opinions it s an F body site. I had a Firebird before the vette.
I have had a total of three (including stock) pumps and they have all had that irritating hum.
Must be something to do with early fuel system (reg. at engine) compared to the later ones.
I just learned to live with it after awhile
you ever stop next to a GMC truck at a light? HHHHMMMMMMMM loud as hell. if its quiet when the tank if full its because its submurged in the fuel (hides the sound)... The fuel also cools the pump so it could be heat related. I have come to the conclustion that GM pumps are noisy. Unless your having a driveablility problem i wouldnt be to concerned.
my stock pump never noticed a hum. no have c-6 zo-6 pump and she's not a hummer but probably will be a screamer when the boost a pump kicks in to get more fuel for the nitrous
i agree some with the post that suggested heat. I noticed mine will be perfectly quite and after being on the road a while it will be humming so bad it sounds like it's coming through the speackers. If i stay in town stop and go traffice and it hot out it will start humming quicker. has anybody changed the fuel filter out to see if that maybe causing the pump to hum after working hard because the filter mybe stopping up?
From what I read the fuel filter is in the tank for late 2003 2004 models. (please correct me if I'm wrong) My 2004 I have heard a hum every once in awhile. I assume it's normal and just turn on the radio.
since im a cop, im gonna listen to a retired cop and try the lucas trick. the full fuel tank comment seems to be true too because i only notice the humming when im low on fuel. i will run that test today and let you folks know what happens.
not that it is a fix but has anyone tried sound deadning the area around the fuel cell or the area behind the drivers seat mine hums too not bad if it would sing pnce in a while 98'

You shouldn't let it run "low" on fuel...I don't let mine get below a quarter tank...that keeps the pump from overheating...
Your fuel pump making the noise is probably the one behind the drivers seat, I had the same problem with my 2004. I added Techron fuel system cleaner, and the noise practically went away. Just make sure youe don't run your car below 1/4 tank, and always put 91 octane when you fill up. I hear the humming sometimes, but it happens so rarely, that I don't even worry about it. If your car stalls or will not start, I would definitely get it replaced.
