I have a 2000 6-spd convertible with 12,800 miles on the clock. I have the oil changed every 3000 miles, but I've noticed that I add between 1-2 quarts between oil changes.
I don't race/beat my car, but I don't baby it either. The Vette mechanic at my local Chevy dealer told me that kind of consumption is normal for a car with a manual transmission - especially if I get on it every once in awhile.
Figured that I'd throw it out to the forum for your opinions, and to hear what all of you are experiencing. Thanks.
I do believe there is a TSB regarding that issue. Check with the dealer. The downside is that it may require replacement of the second piston ring. :yesnod:
Mike, you are definitely in line for a re-ring.....................if you are using 1-2 qts per 3k, that is roughly 1.5 qts per 1500 miles................
GM standard is 1qt per 2000 miles.................
Get it fixed before the warranty expires....it will only get worse........MUCH worse. :cry

Re: Oil consumption (Young Mike)
Looks like you are using a quart every 1500 or so miles. The GM guideline for excessive oil consumption is 1 quart every 2000 miles. I had this issue with mine last fall and decided to have the rings replaced. They did a good job (no damage to car and problem was fixed - at least so far).
There is a technical service bulletin that should be available at your dealer. Talk to the service manager and get the details on what you need to do.
