I just realized it may be the power steering pump pulley...located below the alternator...thought it was the A/C pulley
Anyone have this experience and what's the fix. I've got a 2000 6 speed and driving to the office, looks like it sheared off he hub. I had an estimate of $1,000 but tempted to do the mechanics myself. thx

It all depends on the status of the compressor shaft. If the pulley broke and did not bend / harm / chew up the compressor shaft it is a fairly easy fix. If the shaft is damaged, you are looking at compressor replacement which is a much more complex job requiring all of the AC vaccuum and fill service equipment. Check the idler pulley and arm tension while you are there. In general it is a PITA to get to these items to work on them.
