Hey guys, i want to change the **** on my C5 auto. What is the thread size? 9/16 X 18? I thought it was 1/2 X 20.
What is the thread size on a 6 speed gear shift shaft for a 6 spd ****?

Reason: add more info
The automatic is not threaded on. There is a staple on the front of it and if you pull that it comes straight off. Carefully work a small screwdriver behind and to lift the staple and pull carefully with pliers once it is out ehough to take hold.
**** replacement is limited, there are some available. There is an adapter available that goes on and allows manual style ***** to be screwed on but it puts the **** at least an inch higher than stock.
Hey thanks for the shout. I got the adapter. I ordered a custom ****. I need the thread size for a 6 speed shaft. I got an adapter for the automatic. The thread size for the ball is the same as a 6 speed. Is it 1/2 " x 20. 7/16, metric or what?

Does the staple serve a purpose other than to keep the **** in place? I ask, because I have a shifter and ****, but no staple. Could not figure out how the **** stayed on.
Are you talking about a manual transmission **** or an auto-tranny ****? The auto tranny ****'s c-clip prevents the **** from pulling off. The "key" in the manual tranny OEM shift **** keeps the **** positioned forward and prevents it from rotating. Here's a procedure for removing an auto-tranny ****:
