Both door panels on my '98 have horizontal creases just above the pull that are maybe 15 - 18" long. It looks like the door panel facing has pulled loose from the backing or something. I thought I had seen posts on here about what causes the problem and maybe ways to repair the crease but can't find anything.
Has anyone had a similar situation and fixed it? Please share what you did and how it turned out.
The skin has delmaminated from the backer and shrunk so it won't reattach and hold without taking out the panel and rebonding. I'm going to pull both of them and try Gorilla polyurethane glue to see if it will hold until the polymer sets.
Same problem with my 97. I was thinking the same thing. Why can't you get a long needle of some sort and puncture the leather at the far end of the point where the leather has separated and inject some glue in-between the leather and the arm rest. I tried heating the leather up to stretch it and it work but didn't last for more then 10 minutes then it went back to how it is. Pulled away from the door panel and looking ugly. There has to be some way to get some adhesive in-between the leather and the door panel to glue that leather back down?
There should be opening in the back of the panel. I believe that GM used a vacuum process to suck the leather down to the plastic when making these.
Maybe a shop vac and something cut to surround the door panel behind the arm rest or prop the panel up on a sawhorse and put a sand bag on it to hold the leather down while the glue dries.
Peter,
If I remember right I don't think there is access to the arm rest/leather from the back, but that sounds like a great idea about cutting a access hole and then using a sand bag to press down the leather while the glue dries. The sand bag would conform nicely to the arm rest. Thanks. If and when I get to this I will post results. It would certainly solve a lot of peoples trouble with the arm rest. Thanks
Have the same problem on my 2004. I bought these at a car show. Really look nice and draw the vinyl in and is a permanent fix. I had to remove the door panels and drill mounting holes but I like the end result.

Common problem and there are really no fixes that I have seen, but several vendors sell a cover up that acts as a additional arm rest on top of the area that is effected by the backing. It uses double sided tape and looks good.
