a couple of months ago, after reading the numerous posts here about leaking batteries I ordered an optima from L.A.P.D. (great service, received in one day). I had been very anxious about a leak so I had checked battery about every week for signs of leak, but all looked fine. well after installation of new optima, I looked the battery over closely and saw no evidence of any leaked, but I felt better after install. I put the old Delco on the shelf in my garage. Yesterday while doing some cleaning in garage I noticed a puddle under the old Delcrap. luckily I caught it before it had damaged anything else on the shelf. now the leaking piece of sh** is sitting in a barren space in my back yard until I can figure out a way to dispose of it.
IF YOU HAVE NOT REPLACED YOUR OLD DELCO (MINE IS A 98), YOU ARE ON BORROWED TIME, GET IT REPLACED ASAP. :smash: :smash:
Let me clarify that statement for you: If your battery says "AGM" on it (Many 2001s and all 2002s) you have a battery that is LEAKPROOF and VIBRATIONPROOF. DO NOT REPLACE YOUR BATTERY!
Same thing happend to me with my 98. I think a large portion of the pre-01 C5s will eventually see this problem. Most seem to leak from the positive terminal. Sometimes, it's impossible to detect without removing the positive lead. The acid can 'wick' up the lead without any external visiable problem. Mine looked fine until I removed it.
My Delcrap is still sitting outside next to the trash can too!
I just replaced mine lst week in my 98. I did not get the Optima because I'll be trading up in about 6 months. I got a 950 CA Excide NASCAR battery from BJs for $79.95. No more worrying about the battery going dead because the radio was on for 10 minutes. Delco was not leaking but it was getting tired.
