I have a 98 coupe, and on a few occasions when I turn the headlights on, they dont raise up. Then you have to turn them on-off-on and they raise up. They seem to be working fine almost all of the time, the problem only happened about 3 times so far.
I have read some other posts about similar problems with the column switch or the control module.
Which is the best approach to take???
Thanks, Gene
sounds like maybe the stops are worn and the motors are having a hard time lifting the lights because they get stuck a bit...have you tried flipping the plastic stops? Of course the switch could be an issue as well

humm, i'm having the same problem after replacing the gears . i turned on twilight which i was told would bypass the switch to rule out the switch. when the lights are down and won't come up and i open them manually sometimes they will come up once i start them. the other day when i started them up manually it seemed tight and when i moved it and got the tension off it popped right up. could they be going down to tight and the motor has trouble getting it started? if so how would i fix this.. the grounds seem to be ok also. this problem is about to drive me f'ing crazy.
Almost always, the problem is the headlamp/multifunction switch. There is a headlamp controller mounted on the right forward frame rail behind the right headlamp. You could re-seat the connectors on it but again, the switch is probably the cause.
