How does programming changes actually give car more HP?
I know this is kind of a newbie question.....but I have been wondering how programming changes (e.g. Powerloader, LS1Edit, Steve Wright, etc.) actuallt works to add HP to your car.

You can get more power by changing the air/fuel ratio. Leaning the car out gives you more hp, but overdoing it leads to possible engine damage. Also, you can change shift points in a auto, and or raise the redline limitter which allows you to go faster through all the gears

Just Dyno'd my 99 I produced 293 RWHP and 303 RWTQ, several other C5's (two were stock autos) had well over 300, a few hit the 31X mark. The tech looking at my a/r ratios from my run said I left about 15 HP on the floor. When I asked what he meant he showed me my a/f ratios. From 5200 to 6100 RPM mine fell to 10.9:1 ideal is about 12.5:1 to 13.0:1
The cars producing over 300+ RWHP/RWTQ were closer to ideal then mine. My next MOD will be to have the car "TUNED" before I waste any more $$$ on mods. BTW this is what I have on my car when dyno'd:
MN6
Corsa Indy's
02 LS6 Lid
K&N Air Filter
14,200 miles
Two of the automatics one with a stock exhaust had better numbers but better a/f rations. I have over $1000 in mods so you can see my concern.
I think this is one of the first mods you should do before spending $$$ on all those aftermarket components that the engine might not like.
