strange a/c issue

strange a/c issue
My 01 Z06 has a strange a/c issue. Both the normal and max a/c work fine. The fan blows strong.
But, after driving for @ 1 hour on max a/c, the fan feels like it has slowed down and it's not blowing air as cold as before.
Here's what I do to get it back and here's where my questions come in.
I turn the a/c off but leave the fan blow. The fan continues to blow and feels like it actually comes back to speed. The system will continue to blow cool air for at least 15 minutes. Then I turn the a/c and max a/c back on and it works good again for another hour.
Any thoughts on what's causing this?
