In Southern Calif. you'd think you could find anything you might need for a car but everyone tells me they can not get a replacement starter solenoid for an '03 Z-06. Anyone have a source for these?
I couldn't find one so i had to replace the starter
I've rebuilt numerous starters including replacing brushes, solenoids, and drive gears. Couldn't find parts in the Wash DC area so I had to replace the starter. SUCKS. If someone knows where you can get parts great. Other problem is that you have to drop the exhaust to get to the starter. Some GM engineering.
BIGHANK
I looked up shops in this area (Orange County Calif.) Delco Remy distributors and small independant auto electrical shops and all told me the only way to fix the bad solenoid was to replace the starter with a reman. The stealership said that is how it's been since '88. I guess thats what happens when they stop calling you a mechanic and start calling you a "technician".
"Ive been told that a F body solenoid will fit BUT, you have to get the push on terminal and solder it on to your purple solenoid crank wire." that is from Bill Curlee. I have not checked yet, but if i did it I would fab up a small jumper wire the connected to the old harness. i.e. no soldering under the car.
Starter solenoids have not been available from the factory at our dealership for over 20 years. It is not the techs fault, the manufactorers have found it more cost effective to simply replace units rathers to produce ship and stock repair parts and then pay labor to repair them.
