Default Transmission issues

Hello everybody!

I'm new to this group but I am glad I found it. I have a problem and I hope you guys can suggest a solution.

Not to long ago I became a proud owner of a 1998 Corvette with automatic transmission.

After driving the car for almost 2000 miles the transmission started to slip (that's how it sound and feels to me). The car drives normally in 1st and 2nd gear but it wouldn't shift to 3rd gear no matter how much I rev the engine. I took the car for a transmission oil change and when we remove the transmission oil pan I noticed some buildup on the magnet of the pan. There was very little (2 quarts maybe) oil in the pan. After the oil change the car shifted to 3rd gear a couple of times and than was back to the same as before.

Please give me some input of what has happened, what parts might be damaged and some suggestions of replacement parts for those, but better quality than OEM.

I would appreciate your wisdom in the matter.

Thank You,

Dan

The first thing to do is check the fluid level again. Raise the car so its level, start the engine and check at the fill plug underneath the car. If its low, you have a leak. If not you probably have an internal problem.

Any resolution posted on this problem? I have the same issue on 99 A4. No grinding noise or anything... Feels like I am on a ten speed bike, peddling hard and someone has the rear tire lifted by holding my seat...

Fluid was dirty, 72k but no metal. I got a 2/3 solenoid that I'll replace tomorrow.

Unfortunately, I had to rebuild the transmission. The high gear clutches were fried!
