2002 C5 6 speed manual coupe,
showing codes B1214 ABS (solenoid valve, relay or coil contact circut open)
B1287 ABS (steering sensor, rate malfunction)
P0418 MOD (secondary air injector relay A malfunction)
wanted to know if the car was safe to drive every day untill i get the sensors chaged, i clear the codes but they come right back. car seems to run just fine.
This is my first post in the C5 section, i am a long time corvette owner, 1981 C3, 1988 C4, 2002 C5... i must say the C5 is such a more refined vette.
thanks for the help
No sweat on driving the car. The B1214 code completely turns off the ABS/Traction/Active Handling system. As the system is passive and failsafe, no problem driving. You simply will not have extra features of ABS, etc. The B1287 probably disables the system as well.
The B1214 is the one code that can be easily fixed by sending the EBCM to Brandon at ABS Fixer (on this board) or to one of the eBay vendors. Total cost + shipping is $50-$200. A dealership will want well over $1200.
The EBCU removal procedure is in the sticky Ultimate DIY thread at the top of the Tech Forum. Look for post #69 within the Ultimate DIY. I just did this repair and was able to drive with the EBCM removed (connections securely bagged and taped down).
Just remember that you DO NOT have any electronically compensated braking. Is just like an older manual brake system in any other car until you get the EBTCS repaired.
wow thats crazy all those lights on and all it means is my car now drives like my c4 (in regards to no computer aids).... thanks yall for your quick respones. when i get off work today im going to check out the sticky as mentioned and look into fixing the codes myself.....
