Default West Coast tuner

Anyone have recommendations and/or a good experience with a LA area tuner? I've seen all the praise for Cartek, it's just a shame they're 3000 miles away! I'm leaning towards a H/C package as I've heard some really bad blower horror stories . Thanks!

Yeah, I already had you or Mike Morgan in mind. :D

I was just looking for some customer testimonials (and maybe a quick ride in a mod'd C5 :p: )

West Coast has done all the work on my 2002. They have always given me the best prices by far. They have always finished ahead of schedule and craig chapman is a very fair guy who has spent the time with me on any questions, even though many times it took over an hour. My car is lowered almost 4". I took it back four different times to get the ride hieght perfect and he never charged me. Next month I've got all the bolt ons going on and they were $700 cheaper than the next tuner. I wouldnt take my car anywhere else. You can do a search under vettethret's slammed vette to see how it came out or instant message me if you have any other questions.

Good luck :D   :yesnod:

If I were you, I'd go with a tuner out of state, particularly Texas, like MTI.

You could find a tuner in So. Cal, but if you want the best, go elsewhere. This is from experience.

Although there is MMS which I haven't experienced with but I hear they are putting together some good packages.

Always focus on reliability and quality. Don't get caught up with the HP claims, it is only a hook.

Quality, quality, and quality work is the key.

Also, get completion time estimates on the work order. A lot of shops will try to hook you. Once your car is in the shop, your b*lls are theirs.

Choose a tuner from this forum and you should be o.k. But choose the ones outside of Ca. MMS might be good though but can't testify since I have not done business with them. Mike M. seems like a nice guy.

I HAVE had work done by MMS, I have been driving one of their heads/cam cars for over a year. It's great. I'd go back again. FWIW MTI was my second choice.

Superior Automotive is worth a look. Hot Rod Magazine gets a lot of their work done there.

As another MMS customer, I'm very happy about their work and overall professionalism. Car gained over 100rwhp at 6500rpm! This is a milder version of their Stage II set up. Car runs great. They have many Vettes and Fbods in their shop and have been in this business for some time.
IM me for more details.

Sounds like I can't go wrong with either WCC or MMS.

Has any of you run into unexpected surprises (bad or good) with your H/C pkgs? Did anyone keep their stock exhaust on? I like the stock look, but I would hate to have it be a serious bottleneck.

What is a H/C package? I had West Coast Corvette put a 4:11 rear end and make some cooling modifications to my already completely modified Doug Rippie Motorsports DRM/C500RSR car and they did a splendid job. Quick, reasonable priced, good attitude and quality work. They are also willing to spend time talking with you talking about the work without any rushing too. I would consider them to do any work on my car. DRM is in Minnesota and that is a bit too far for me to have more work done on my car, so WCC has had to inherit it. I don't think they mind.

H/C = Heads & Cam. How much did the install on the DRM500 engine cost you? Can you even lay down that much power? I already can't go WOT anywhere in 1st without spinning the runcraps...

It launches nicely even with street tires. You do have to ease into it if you don't want to put the tires up in smoke. I ditched the runcraps for some better hi perf street tires. The ride and traction were both impoved imho. The price was in the mid 20's with a high perf transmission rebuild.

Let me get this straight, you are getting ONLY 320 HP form Head, Cam, TB, Headers, Programing, LS6 intake, and Intake

Did I read it wrong???

Also, is MMS = Morgan MortorSports?

I'm with you, that seems VERY low. I got a MILD cam with good heads, etc. from MMS (yes, that is Morgan Motorsports :D ) and got over 400 rwhp. Talk to Mike or Al at MMS, they won't steer yiou wrong.

I agree with 6Speeder .. MMS does great work , they were able to squeek out 430RWHP with there stage II heads and 229 Cam..I'm thrilled with the results and performance.
Most recently i had the unfortunete incedent of breaking a Valve spring , so i had a chance to test out MMS's AFTER sales service..and i was equily as pleased..We had the car on a flatbed within 24hrs and MMS had the car repaired and back to me the same week.. (even though they were backed up with 3 weeks worth of work ) His lot looked like C5 heaven ,he had 4- 5 C5's on the LOT and two Stroker's on the lift..

My next MOD will be an ATI procharger and MMS will be doing that as well..Keep in mind that MMS does all there own tuning , several tuners send the comptuer out to Steve Cole or another programmer to do the programming. I like the fact that MMS does everything from start to finish .

Kudo's to Mike , AL and the rest of the crew @ MMS.

Rgds

You read it right Da Kind was the original owner and paid over 15k to WCC's for these mod's. And I was the lucky guy who got H/C vette with about 20 more RWHP than a stocker.. Some tuners are getting 120rwhp more than the West Coast Corvette package I had with a whopping 320 at the wheels.''' The response from WCC to bad buddy...

Yea, no mice power vs horse power. Guess thats why it didn't come with dyno #'s. Based on my experience I would not recommend these guys. Not because there was a problem but because they didn't hold true to their word. I talked with the owner Craig before I purchased the car and he gave me his personal Guarantee that this car was perfect and had potential 10's w/150 shot of N02. I did run a couple of 12.5s on a 150 shot w/2.00 60'-s though... But I blame myself, it should have been dyno'ed prior to shipping it to MN. And I didn't request any dyno #'s.

I put a new cam in it (a stock LS6) and have a new set of heads being done. The motor now sits in my Yukon 4wd and puts out 296rwhp with out headers and using the stock intake. I expect to pickup 40-50rwhp with headers, new intake and better heads.

Two words...."RIPPED OFF!" This is what I felt/feel as a customer. I would not go back. They killed a golden goose.

Last year I spent $20,000 at that place. Dennis had the car dyno'd after I sold it to him and the result 320 rwhp as posted above. Prior to selling the car, I never had the car dyno'd after the mods.

Moreover, their (WCC) tech John refused to do additional work on my old C5 because I blew a head gasket and posted it on the forum. He got upset because of my post and inquiry to the forum. What a wacko.

If you want more details, feel free to email me. There are other forum members who have experienced the same.

Again, go to MMS or go out of state.

Do not use any of the chop-shops in Southern Ca.
