DIC autocycling
99 A4 coupe
Has anyone had their DIC cycling thru menus on its own? Mine is running thru the options menu items...it speeds thru them...then stops and it goes back to the odometer...then starts cycling thru the options menu again.
It doesn't change any settings or anything, its just like I'm pushing the button manually...ie, the menu just cycles, while driving.
I have not checked any grounds yet, or anything of that nature. Was hoping someone had this issue and knew the solution before I start chasing geese...the wild ones.
Thanks in advance for any help!
Thanks! If there's anymore, keep them coming!

Checked all grounds and installed new switches, still no luck. IPC replacement is next!
I'm hoping its the $70 part mentioned above....any luck up there?

It started scrolling through the GAGES info on its own so at the advice of a few people on here I did the "Gut Your C5 Interior To Get To TWO Lousy Screws!!" DIC Switch replacement fix and it only did one thing... Taught me how to gut out the interior of my C5!
I picked up the switch from Vettenuts.net for $45.I found a couple of complete IPC panels with the HUD on eBay for $180 and $240 so I think I'm just going to pick one up and replace it and hope for the best. From the last posts on this thread it looks like that's the bottom line to solving this and I'm no electrical wizard or soderizing cluster f*ck fixer or anything!! haha... Just curious how yours turned out is all...??
Take care!
Step 1: Bought a used gauge cluster with HUD capability (cause mine has HUD), that matched the part number of my current cluster. They changed clusters around 2000, so I'm not sure if the newer ones work in the older models, or vice versa. I just searched the web a few times a week, and found one with 100k miles for around 100 bucks. They are on here all the time for anywhere between 75 and 200 bucks. Just keep your eyes open for someone parting out their wrecked vette, etc.
Step 2: since my car had 19000 miles at the time, I had to send the new cluster to a programmer. This can vary in pricing. I got 3 quotes total:
Quote #1: Dealer will buy you a new cluster and it will come with your mileage programmed into it and install it for you for around $700.
Quote #2: Buy a cluster used, and send to SPECMO for mileage programming, they cost like $65 plus shipping to them.
Quote #3: Buy a cluster used, and send to <can't remember, they were in NY state>, they were like $120 total.
I went with SPECMO, I used fedex to ship it, they sent it back the same day they got it. Takes them no real amount of time.
Step 3: get it back from specmo, rip dash appart, install, turn on car to test, put dash back together, done.
You can skip step 2 if the odometer reading is the same as yours, or close enough, etc. I had to sign a disclosure thing for them, but that's normal. I have been told you can program the mileage with a certain GM tool, but the one guy on here who has/had the tool, wouldn't answer my PM's. He was local to me too, so that kind of sucked.
I did swap the circuit boards and stuff around on the clusters, which allowed me to identify the problem being on the IPC board (the main one with the DIC display). I couldn't see any solder problems visibly or anything like that. So, if you really want to save some money, just buy the IPC board and replace that.
I was told its possible the other computer will tell it what the mileage should be as well if it reads zero, which a new IPC board would, I imagine. if it doesn't, you could just send the cluster to SPECMO with the new IPC board installed and they will program the mileage.
That's a whole lot for a "long story short", but hope it helps. If I had to do it all over again, I would probably have went the same route. I enjoy working on my vehicles. If your time is worth more to you, or your not exactly mechanically inclined, or you have money to burn, then just goto the dealer and pay them their $700 bucks. I actually expected the dealer to be well north of $1k, but they aren't. The gauge cluster from GM, new and programmed, is $550.
for my 1999 w/ HUD the part number is 10279518
