I bought a Ti catback for my 2000 C5 from a forum member. My question is how high do I have to get the rear wheels off the ground in order to get the stock catback off and the new Ti catback back on? (I read the post about dropping the rear sway bar for more clearance)
That is correct. You will need to take out the four fasteners on the sway bar and let it hang down out of the way. No need to completly remove it. I'd say a minimum of 24" of height is required.
Just had some installed today, I wasn't comfortable with having to jack up the rearend of the car 3 feet...minimum
If you have an A4 you might want to remove the heat shield from the right gas tank to give it a little more clearance...and you'll have to shimmy it a little to get it out. IMHO go with a shop with a lift
Well I was taking my Ti exhaust off, but it needs to be about yea high... (32 inches or so from the ground to the bottom of the rear bumper fascia). I had plenty of room so I guess it could stand to be a little lower I guess.
It is actually pretty easy, the key to doing it pretty safely is to have a set of the large 24" jackstands like those pictured. Regular jackstands aren't tall or stable enough IMO (but you still won't need the full 24" height here, the angle of the car has the rear bumper much higher than at the side lift points). I used two 2x12 boards with a pair of 4x4 sandwitched between to get the necessary height on top of my jack to get the car high enough, lifting on the rear crossmember of course.

I love to do all my car work myself. Only thing is thats is not safe at all. If you cant get access to a lift pay a shop $50-$75 and have them do it for you. $50-$75 vs a 3000lb car coming down on top of you. Lets think about this one......

31" minimum. I'd read 29" would do it so that's what I shot for. Denied. 31" did it. It's a pretty straight forward thing to do but just be safe and pay attention to what you're doing. I screwed the majority of my blocks together but also cribbed up the jack underneath it with 2x10's so I'd use less blocks on the jack saddle.
Months later I bought a Kwiklift for the header install so now swapping exhausts would be simple.
I had to get mine 34 inches from the factory exhaust tips and I only had about a half inch of clearance to remove the factory. I was able to fit a yard stick under the rear fascia where the exhaust come out.
Oh and make sure you have the front jacked up or on ramps because the front will bottom out with the rear being ~3 feet off the ground. And if you use ramps make sure the front tires are secured very well or they will roll back when you start lifting the back of the car up.
