How much hp can a stock c5 trans hold a4.

Heat is the killer to these trannys.. My 99 c5 tranny went out at 38k with 320rwtq.. More power= more heat.. A4 is weak.. An aftermarket trans cooler will help extend life

ok, well i wanna do a heads and cam package headers and exhaust. only those things. im guessing id be around 450-470 depending on cam.
So it would be a must to get a new trans? i got a 2000 t/a which made 468 rwhp w/ corrections. and has an FLT trans level 4 and that thing is a beast. so i should probably go with one of those then.

It will last as long as you desire, With:
(1)A "PROPER" transmission cooler (Bypassing the Radiator altogether)
(2) A good transmission tune (Yes they can be tuned) when done with HP Tuners on a Dyno and a competent tuner
(3) Tranny Flush and new tranny fluid changes
I held 701 RWHP on my stocker with a YANK 3200 stall for a 90,000 miles, my only problem was that I did not have a cooler then and it hit 244* on a summer day and the 3/4 gears went (That is the weakest point)
For a long time I was at 423 RWHP Naturally asperated and then went to FI (Procharger) - now I had the tranny rebuilt and it has HD parts in it and now it'll last another 90,000 miles
Get it properly tuned and a good tranny cooler and you will be set
Thanks,matt

Like stated above you need to do proper maintenance and fluid swaps. A good cooler and add a fan to boot. also the correct stall for your cam and the correct tranny tune. I have seen many guys with A4's running 500+ rwhp as their DD and they have no issues at all.
Good luck.
Good luck.
