Anyone know when they improved the ABS on the 1998? I know I have read it somewhere here but can't find it. They say "mid year". Mine has a build date of 6/98.. I have yet to look closely under the car, but I have hopes mine falls into the latter of the 1998 builds.
With only 17k miles on my baby, I would hope I wont have any issues for quite some time, even if it has the early version of the ABS..
Tanks in advance!
Notice I spend my nights reading all the forum posts? It's after 1:30 am.. Very addicting!
I don't know what VIN number started the later model ABS but it's pretty simple to determine on your car. Raise the hood, stand at the drivers side fender and look down. If you see the ABS module just forward of the alternator it's a late model. No ABS module means it's mounted in the rear and is a early model. I'm not sure it's an improvement because both use the same module on the non Active Handling cars.
Doesn't really matter. They both seem to have the same failure rate and if it goes you're screwed. They can't be repaired and GM does not have any new nor do any vendors. Your only hope is to find a used one at a recyclers or here on the forum from someone parting out a car.
