Default Air flow and horsepower

I have a bone stock 2002 and considering adding an upgraded air intake system. First question is which one will give me the most hp for the dollar I spend? I see that there are a lot of choices in the 3 to 4 hundred dollar range.

Second question is more subjective... If I add say 20 hp. will I actually ever notice it? I am not a racer. I own a corvette for the on ramps and passing cars on the road. In other words l like to feel and use the power but don't drag or road race. I just don't have an idea of whether I will actually notice going from about 350 to 370 hp. or should I just save the money. What say you.

My vote is no. If you don't floor it, which it sounds like you do not do, you will not use the power.

I personally just love the feel, handling, looks, and balanced power for passing and high speed driving. I don't think I've use full power more than a few times a year. (Except in the weekend autocrosses I run of course.)

You won't get 20 HP from a CAI, even the best performing one (Vararam) imo. To take advantage of higher, cooler air flow, you need a good tune, which in combination, will yield about 20, I'd guess. The VRam is sold for about 255, and many bitch about it's quality, but if you're not afraid to tweak it a little, it'll give you the best results. The philosophy of needing/wanting/using added HP is a whole other can of worms. Personally, I'll always want more, even though I rarely use more than %30 of what I have.

Conduct a forum search for the flip-tie mod, it's an essentially free CAI.

Wow, you expect 20hp from an intake, even with a tune????

If it's an auto just a tune will make the shifting more crisp and the car will feel faster.

Other way around, the TUNE will provide most of the HP increase. a new CAI will assist the tune.

The Stock CAI and Tune are very restrictive to the LS1 or LS6
