Default Modified Ecklers Air cleaner housing use ?

Has anyone used the modified air clear lid #37053 on a base LS1 engine? Is there any better flow rates with this or is it just another item that states inproved air flow? It looks like if there is water on the hood and you open it, the water pours into the air cleaner ? Others say I can use a 2002 ZO6 lid, which would be the better route ? I'm looking for a slight increase intake area ?

A used ZO6 lid will work just as well BUT,, its NOT going to give you much if any increases.

You need a true cold air intake to get any decent power increases.

Search for "flip tie" or "zip tie" mod...and then buy a hood seal if you're looking for a cheap cold air intake. Those methods are practically free.

Thanks, I have the Hood seal already, But when you say "flip tie" or "Zip tie" what do you mean? That the Ecklers modified lid is a good choice or i should look for a 2003 ZO-6 air filter lid ?

Your 2003 C5 already has a good air filter top. Not quite as large as a forward slot as a ZO6, but okay.

The early C5's (1997-2000) are the ones that have crappy air filter tops.

That Ecklers top is just cut, see below, and would allow water in if you don't have a front hood seal or raise the hood after washing or rain.

Those are just freebie methods that allow you to remove the lid, thus exposing the entire filter element to pull in air without obstruction.

Thank you, It is good advice. I wouldn't want the water in as thats just going to ruin the filter.
