How old is too old when buying supposedly "new" tires ?
I bought new tires today that were made in '09. The tires that came off were 5 years old (but "new") when they were installed. I didn't know any better at the time. They were on for 6 years making them.... 11 years old! Scary.
Depends on the tire manufacturer and how they get to the store. But, I would not buy any tires at full price that were more than 1 yr old. Let the less educated by the old stuff. I even check my food in the stores now.
But then my rear tires rarely last more than a couple years anyway .
No, for some idiot reason the decision was made to put the code on the backside so us ignorant consumers wouldn't pay any attention. The code should be on both sides or the front side.
Technically, there is absolutely nothing wrong with tires that are 4 years old and even older. The media is really spreading much disinformation about tire age. As long as they are stored properly in a warehouse there is no impact on performance or safety.
