Default Cleaning Halltech filter

What's the general consensus for cleaning a cold ait intake filter ... are there cleaning / oiling products suggested ... other than K&N? Pro's / Con's?

I clean my Blackwing in a solution of simple green and a soft brush in a bucket of water. Reoil with a mixture mineral oil and alcohol in a spray bottle.

---What is the ration of mineral oil vs. alcohol. Isopropyl or Grain alcohol!?

The general concensus would be to follow the filter manufacturer's recommended procedure.

I just put enough alcohol in there so that I can spray the oil on the filet. The alcohol evaporates leaving the oil on the filter. If you follow the manufacturers recomendations they'll have you buying an over priced kit that is basically the same proceedure that I gave you.

Just curious why you say "other than K&N". I use the K&N cleaning solution and the oil too. No problems for me. I have the Halltech Venom.

---Meaning ... I am familiar with the suggested use of K&N ... but figured there are many people online which may have experience (good or bad) with alternate products. I'm just trying to learn a little more information.

As you can see in that thread (http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...ir-filter.html) , some members have trouble dealing with these thoughts.

Just don't overoil the filter. My first one wasn't sure how much K & N oil to use--used way too much dripped oil for a month. Now I have a Halltech Venom 2--really like it--just didn't like the price. I think it definitely increased HP--I can feel the difference.

The HALLTECH website tells you how to do it. They link to the K&N FILTERS instructions...

http://www.halltechsystems.com/category_s/42.htm

In the past, HALLTECH used S&B FILTERS. Here's the link to their cleaning instructions...

I clean with a 3 parts water 1 part simple green solution.
Dry for 48 hours (minimum) and them oil with transmission fluid misted onto the filter from a plastic aerosol trigger spary bottle.

PJ-1 foam filter cleaner spray, a motorcycle product but it cleans cotten pleated filters and foam filters without damaging them. Rinse with warm water allow to dry and re-oil. I won't use anything else until they stop making it.
