Of course, these are minimum specs and you certainly don't need an AGM battery.
I'm running the AC Delco Professional 7YR battery (50-month free replacement) but even the Costco Kirkland and Walmart MAXX will do nicely.

I bought mine through the AC Delco sales rep who stocks Pep Boys stores. They stock AC DElco batteries but not the Professional series (typically, at the dealerships, only). The manager at one of the local Pep Boys hooked me up and I was able to get a decent deal that way.

My second choice would be the Costco Kirkland, as its case is black. The Walmart MAXX is yellow - nice if you have a Millenium Yellow C5, not so nice if you have Magnetic Red as I do.

I would not buy anything with less than 700 CCA and 110-120 RC as a minimun....

It will help you guard your car against those pesky electrical "gremlins"

Well, during the 7 years I had my 500 CCA OEM battery, I never had any electrical gremlins other than the failed door lock module and column lock actuator (which was definitely not because of low voltage or CCAs.)

That being said, I must mention that the direct replacement battery for my 01 from AC Delco is rated at 700 CCA.

Thanks! I'll try at my local Pep Boys...

I have a yellow top Optima that replaced my almost new red top Optima.. No more issues, but next time, Im going with the GM Professional from the dealer. My yellow top doesn't look too bad in my Torch Red C5. It starts the car! Usually always has at least 13 volts so the computer is happy along with 120 reserve Just stay FAR away from the Red Top Optima.. Its under rated for the C5

The red top is the one recommended for 2004 by Optima on their site. It has way more cranking amps and is what you need to avoid eating starter motors for one. My Red Top (5 yrs old ) has been in since March 2006 and is still fine! The factory battery only made it two years. POS - Look at the specs they speak for themselves or better yet punch up your year and see what they recommend http://www.optimabatteries.com/optim...wtop/index.php

I strongly recommend whatever battery you buy, get and use a battery maintainer and use it when your car sits more than 3-4 days.

The 120 RC is a minimum. I"m using the Maxx from WalMart and it's working great.

Stock battery lasted 5 years and my car would routinely sit for 5-6 weeks without a battery tender.
