I saw a related post to this in the c5 archives but my case is a little different. No one really had any solid ideas in the c4 section so i thought i would check here. My car is a 94 with only boltons and i just recently went from a 2:59 rear to a 3:75 rear end. I have a hypertech programmer that can adjust for 3:70 gears but not 3:75..so i just punched in 3:70. My rear tires are 285-35-18's and i told the programmer they were 26 inches tall. In first gear..it doesnt even have to be full throttle...i smack the rev limiter 3 or 4 times before it shifts sometimes. Other times it works flawlessly. Trying to solve this i removed the shift firmness...raised the rev limiter to 6400 and told the programmer my tires were 25.75 tall and went -2 on the 1 to 2 shift. I thought this fixed it but earlier today it smacked it for a second again. Any ideas? I just went out and programmed the tire height to 25.5 hoping this would further help..but if this does not work i am stumped! Also...how off will the stupid speedo be now? And am i taking the tire height in the proper direction to fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. And no offense to the c4 people..they tried but nothing definite was said. Thanks all
Dude, no offense, but you need to shift sooner. You've added 45% more torque multiplication, and your gears will all be that much shorter. If you didn't do any engine work, why would you raise your limiter?? I had a 420 hp LT1 in my '94, and I shifted at 6000 rpm.
Get used to it, and enjoy the added thrust in 1st and 2nd...
Keep lowering your shift points (i.e. shifting sooner), sounds like you are close. Also what kind of converter are your running? Are you banging the limiter at part throttle or WOT?
Re: New Gears...Smacking Rev Limiter (ToplessTexan)
No offense taken...trust me...i want it to shift as soon as it can. I think i may have solved it by doing what i said. I typed in the rear tire as 25.5 and it is doing better. Im not running a stall at all..just factory convertor
