First off I 'm getting a rattling noise close to the engine when the car is at idle and with the clutch out. When I push the clucth in the noise goes away. I know GM throw out bearings are noisy becasue all of my camaros and my 96 vette all had that. But this is actually a lot louder where you can hear it outside the car. Is my clutch bad? I have 21k miles on it now and have never launched it real hard or missed a gear.
Second I posted a ? about some DIC codes earlier and cleared them all out and the are back again. They tend to pop when I sit at idle for long periods of time. The codes are for PCM and RFA. I saw a post about the"GM Batery leak" is this what I have and if so do I just need to replace my battery.
Any help would be great.
Thanks
C5's don't have throwout bearings :(. We have a self adjusting clutch via the slave cylinder setup in our hydraulics. There are 3 codes prefixed with RFA and they are normal codes. The PCM prefixed codes are not, however. What are the codes prefixed with PCM? Also, easiest way to check the battery is to open the hood and take it out to see if it's leaking. ;) Let us know what you find out.
Darrel - My 01 Coupe has 1200 miles on it and it does the same thing. When I let the clutch out in neutral, it makes a rattling noise that can be heard outside the car. Push the clutch in and it goes away. The rattle is intermittent and not very loud and seems to come from the rear. I think it is just driveline rattling characteristic of the C5 enclosed driveline and rear mounted tranny. A bad clutch release (throw out) bearing would more likely be noisy when the clutch pedal was pushed in.
I have an 02 and also have a slight rattle with the clutch out at a stop. It is very noticeable when I shut the engine off with the clutch out. Try shutting it off whith the clutch in vs out and you will see what I mean.
I have been told that it is normal for a c5 m6 to have this sound.
All MN6's are noisy. There is nothing wrong with your clutch. If you want to hear a nasty noise then try shutting the car off in neutral with the clutch out. It makes a horrible noise, but its normal.
I started changing my clutch reservior fluid with Castrol LMA. I've changed it twice and it's still turning dirty, so I'll do it again. But I noticed a few days ago that noise isn't there or is very much quieter. Maybe coincidence. Maybe not. But this is the first time I haven't heard the noise in over 17K miles. (This isn't the same marbles noise on the video. It's the noise at idle with the clutch out.)
