hey guys im installing a raptor shift light and i cant figure out which one is the tach wire underneath the driver side dash..i heard its the white wire but the 2 white wires i found werent it..im doing the method of useing a volt meter and connecting the meter to the white wire and grounding it in which the tach needle should jump slightly..if anyone can chime in on what wire it would be underneath the dash would be great..btw vehicle is a 04Z06
i tested all 4 wires going to the cluster and neither of them worked..maybe its because of what im using..im testing with a volt meter.. and a 12v test probe with the light but the light doesn't work maybe thats my problem?
When I did mine, I was unable to get the tach to jump when I grounded the wires, so I resorted to a more technical approach....
I soldered a needle to he tach input wire, connected 12V and ground. I set the shift light to a very low setting, like 2000 RPM. I then started the car and jammed the needle in each white wire and reved the engine above the required RPM. I then moved to the next wire and repeated the above until I found the right wire. It wasn't pretty, but my shift light still works!
(I didn't think I would ever tell anyone about this!)
If your in the right bundle of wires, there should be 3 small 18g white wires. The tach wire will be the one that is a little off white.
There should also be a pink wire in the bundle, that will be the ign. wire.
Take your probe & probe ea of the white wires. Without the car running, when the tach jumps a tadwhen probed, that is your tach wire.
Good luck.
there were total 4 white wires..3 were the same size and a tad bit smaller than 1 of the white wires..i did the volt meter trick to all of the white wires with no needle jumping..maybe the needle wont jump when i find the right one haha
i know im in the right bundle of wires because i followed the bundle with my hand and it led to the gauge cluster

Hope this helps.. This is the thread I used. I had problems too. So I solder'd a Needle to the end of the wire on the Shift light and then probed the white wires. The first one I probed was a winner using the above thread.
Ohh I also did not cut threw the white wire to make the connection. (Space and Slack was limited) I simply shaved a little piece of the insulation off with an x-acto and wrapped the raptor wire around the white one and used a low temp soldering Iron to solder the wire for a good connection.. Don't forget the Shrink Wrap or Electrical Tape!
Found it..the test probe method didn't work..hooked up the shift light and taped into the wires one at a time to find it..was the white 18gauge wire on the right..thank you for the help guys! appreciate it alot
