Got my new chrome hood struts and now to replace them the question is if the bottom clip has to be unclipped like the top or can it be unscrewed. I did the search but they only talk about being careful not to pop the clip out too far or you will lose it. The new ones unscrew from the bottom clip but before I cause too much damage I would like to know about the proper procedure to follow for the bottom. Thanks.
The clips, top and bottom, work the same way. Get a small screwdriver under it and pop it out. If you are concerned about losing it, place some tape on it for when it pops free. Then just pull the strut off the ball of the hinge.
They come with generic instructions that cover all applications. Finally went to a bodyshop/restorer who changed them in 5 mins. The trick is handling the old clips by holding the clip with your thumb so it doesnt pop out while prying with a screwdriver and pulling off the strut from the ball. It takes some practice and the new ones just pop on with little effort.
