Default Non run-flats and LTPMS idea

I haven't put run-flats on the C5, well, since I bought it. At first it was just because the run-flats didn't have the performance of a conventional tire. Now, it's just because high performance run-flats cost about what you could buy a kidney from China runs.
I've been worried about the eventuality of getting a flat with no spare, and as we all know the "slime" products are hazardous to the pressure monitoring systems. So I had this spark of an idea and was wondering if anybody else has tried/thought of it and if it would work.
Maybe next time I have the tires off, I'll take the normal LTPM sensor out of the wheel, remove the schrader valve and cover the stem with a cap or something that can breathe. Then, instead of mounting it in the normal hole, I'm thinking of strapping it to the inside of the rim itself like the early sensors were. Then I just put a conventional tire stem in the wheel.
Of course the idea is that I could then carry a can of tire "slime" and in the event of a flat, I don't shoot the slime through the sensor. My intention is that I can make a stem cover that can breathe but maybe keep out the slime.
I know it would give me a certain amount of relief to be able to carry a can of fix-a-flat AND not feel like it's going to cost me a new sensor

You could certainly do all that but sensor safe Fix-A-Flat is just that, sensor safe. Also, the problem isn't running the product through the sensor. There is a small hole on the body of the sensor that allows pressurized air into the sensor. Tire sealants tend to block this hole. You would still have the same problem with that hole being blocked.

Sensor safe Fix-A-Flat is a latex based product and will clean off the sensor with soap and water.

I know that years ago, fix a flat and slime did not make compatible versions for use with TPS...but it seems things have changed. Perhaps you could inquire with them, before rigging something up.

The stem ONLY allows air IN & OUT of the wheel and provides a stem to mount the sensor to the rim. The sensor uses a small hole on the BODY of the sensor to allow pressure to act on the pressure transducer in the sensor:

The BIG hole is where air enters or exits the rim. The small hole in the TOP LEFT of the sensor is the transducer:

Learn something new every day. And here I was thinking I had a brilliant idea. I need to check out my local wally*world for the sensor safe stuff.
Thanks.

Default TPMS senders 01 VS 2000 strap senders

Can I use the newer (2001) style valve stem senders on my (2000) receiver module or do I have to change the whole system?

I bought a set of tires and wheels from a club member from his 01 Z 06 to put on my 2000 C 5 that had the strap type senders in the original wheels. Do I have to use the strap type senders (197.00 each) or can I use the newer stem type like the 01 Z 06 (11.00 each) :and still be read by my original receiver module? Would I have to replace the receiver module to work with the stem type senders?
