LS7 and LS3 heads are rectangular ports and each uses it's own intake. The LS1,2,6 have cathedral intake ports and the intakes are interchangeable. The LS6 is the better of the stock GM cathedral port intakes. Look around, you may be able to find a used FAST 90 from someone who has upgraded to the 92mm or 102mm.

The LS6 is superior just because of the way the LS2 is built. The LS6 is a single piece, using "lost casting". The LS2 is a three piece design that is vibration welding together.

The LS2 ports are pretty crappy from the factory, clean them up and guys are seeing 15-20rwhp pick ups. The problem w/ the LS2 is there is alot of turbulance from the gaps and imprefections from the three piece design. You can take a hose and squirt it down the TB opening of an LS2 and it will show you every single crack and opening in the port runners. Now just imagine how that is when the motor is try to suck air in?!?!

One of the best mods I did om my 98 was upgrading to the LS6 Manifold and a ported throttle body. Definitely a difference!!!

I have been contemplating his same mod. Question, I have a 99 FRC, will my stock TB fit on an ls6 until I decide to upgrade my TB?

I am torn between a fast 90, and LS6, any suggestions, and what is needed to see the most gains? I want to do things right the first time. Thanks.

You cannot use a larger TB on a stock LS6 intake. Not only the size of the opening but the larger - LS2+ - TB's are 4 bolt and will not bolt up.

A company name TPIS modifies and LS6 intake to accept a 90mm TB and it works very well.

Which ever is less money. A ported 90 for the same price as an LS6 would be the best bet, or if you can find a ported LS6. Anything is better than the LS1

OK, I'm a little confused by all of the different manifolds. This tread seems to say that a 2001+ LS1 comes from the factory with the LS6 manifold, or is it only on the Z06, which is what I thought? If so, no gain in HP for a stock 2001+ LS1 by adding the LS6 manifold, and the manifold can't take a bigger throttle body without modification?

Thanks,

Phil

I'll make it easy for you. ALL 2001+ C5's have the same intake manifold.

Thanks for the info. I had read about significant performance gains by using the LS6 manifold on the LS1 engine, and was thinking about putting one on my LS1. I was surprised when I read that the 2001+ LS1 already came with that manifold. Since it is called the LS6 manifold, I assumed that it was only used on the LS6, hence the gains when installed on a LS1. I was also surprised that a larger than stock throttle body cannot be used without modification to the manifold. Apparently, the gains were on a 1997 to 2000 LS1.

OK, so since I have a '99....

If I purchase a fast 90, or an ls6, my current TB will bolt up no problem until I decide to upgrade my tb? correct?

Thanks

No to the fast 90, yes to the 2001+ intake.
