Can you paint over chrome? I have chrome C5Z's on my car for a few years now and wanna change over to black wheels. Would I be better off just getting them painted?
Painting over chrome is tricky, chrome is a very hard metal and not very porous. The painter guy on MuscleCar did a thing on painting chrome wheels and the prep and chemicals to use to get the paint to stick correctly.
Don't paint the ones you have. Put a post up on the FS/WTB section. WTB, set of wheels - cheap - condition does not matter. Pick up a set cheap and have them painted. Then when you decide you like the chrome better - you can swap back. Or, if you really like the painted ones - sell the chrome ones.
That was a translucent paint/clear designed by dupli color or whoever to do BLACK CHROME. Not to change the color to a solid black instead of chrome.
Just to be aware of is all.
They still may have a similar rattle can paint/clear that will work but the one on that muscle car show is a black chrome paint so you'll have the black chrome effect.
