Default ZO6 Air Box

So if somehow I came upon a very good price for a ZO6 air box and outfitted with a reuseable filter, how much less of an impact to the performace would it be vs. a Blackwing or Halltech or the like? Assume this would be - based on what I had to pay for a box- less expensive way to go to get more air- than the others. I have an '03 what year ZO6 box would properly fit and is it basically a direct swap thanks

Save your money! Just zip tie mod your stocker and you will have the same performance as a Z06 airbox with the zip tie mod. The only difference between the C5 and LS6 airbox is the top cover(which is left off with this mod). Then you get 99% of the performance of an aftermarket intake, for the cost of a few zip ties.

To answer your question...any of the Z06 lids from '01 to '04 will work on your '03 coupe. It's a simple R&R. The '01 Z06 had a smaller opening than the '02 to '04 Z06 lids.

Some guys have cut their stock box to allow more air in like the zo6 box.
And does anyone know if the base air box lid has a hole cut in the top, I know mine does but Im not sure if it was put on or came from the factory like that.

The coupe/convertible lid did not originally come with any opening on the top. That was only for the Z06 cars. A previous owner DIY project maybe?

Save you money and get a VARARAM. If you dont want a vararam, just do the ZIP tie mod

It won't match the performance of a Vararam but it sure won't hurt!

My 01 vert came stock with an opening on top. The Z06 simply had a slightly larger opening. But keep in mond that the majority of the air comes in from the sides of the air box. With the airbox removed and assembled look at the sides, you will see that there is more than enough of an opening to allow air in.

The '01-'04 base lid is the same as the '01 Z06. They all have the small opening in the lid. The '02-'04 Z06 lid has the larger opening. To answer your question, yes it is worth a couple horsepower, but nothing like a Vararam.
