whats a low roll ? thats a semi big cam, the power will be more latent.. its not a street cam its more of a strip cam but that's all subjective.. some people think the trex is a street cam as well.

I'm researching for the same answer, I think. I want to install a Comp Cams cam and not sure how big to go.

From what I have found, going bigger than about 224ish @ .050" will not yield much more horsepower and may only negatively affect lower rpm torque.

But if you plan on installing better flowing heads then the 230 series cam would be great.

Personally, I'm stubborn and will probably run an LSr series Comp Cam with 231/230 @ .050" and .617/.624 lift. Honestly though, a 222 - 224 @ .050" should be max for stock heads based on my reading.

Just my thoughts, and I hope I'm wrong 'cause I wanna big cam too ha!

There are a lot of variables with cams. A LOT of people over cam their car. I don't remember how well stock heads flow, but that is what determines what cam to run. For example: Your heads could stop flowing at .600 lift, which means you wouldn't need anything above that. Also, you should REALLY change springs when you change cams to be on the safe side.

You would be lucky if in 1st gear to even be in the power curve of that cam unless your going with 410 gears or something? I would be going no bigger than a 224 and even then your on the edge on the power-band. The 224 really doesnt kick until about 3200 rpms even though its adversed from 1800 or 2200 up .... you dont see appreciable power at that RPM.. it just starts to come alive then but doesn't kick hard until a little bit higher in rpms. 224/228 on a 111 might be ok or even as suggested a 222 duration.. but some people have a hard time swallowing a smaller cam and will always say something huge and impractical. Best way to do this is to have a custom cam ground. I send you a questionnaire to fill out and we spec it based on your answers.. takes all the guessing out of it. $425 to you door.

big cam with ported heads with big runners is not a good combo unless your leaving the line at 5000 rpms or something?
