Default oil pressure

My 2000 vettes oil pressure gauge on dash reads a approx 65 lbs while key is on but engine not running the digital gauge in display mode reads between 120 and 130 engine not running. When I crank up the engine pressure gauge goes to full 80 lbs and digital gauge reads 130. LT1 engine stock everything, whats going on? just got the car and drove it from San Antonio, Tx. car ran good 24 mpg, no oil use and no noise?????

Oil pressure sensor has died. Its a common failure. You can replace it yourself and there are two methods to get to it. Either remove the intake which takes about 30 minutes to pull the first time or cut a hole through the cowling.

Using your line of thinking no one would ever post anything because I can't think of a single C5 Corvette technical matter that hasn't been discussed numerous times on this forum.

The guy is a new member and it wouldn't kill you to at least pretend to be polite

Just to let you know for future reference, unless the car has had an engine swap its a LS1 motor.

Now there are 3 methods. Someone recently posted a video showing how to remove and replace without removing the intake or cutting the hole. Some people didn't like the fact that you couldn't use a torque wrench with this approach. I removed the intake to replace mine and if you have never done it before it will take much longer than 30 minutes. Read the thread and you decide.

Yup this happend to me as well and i already knew what had gone wrong from hearing about it so much....When mine went bad i obviously looked into its replacement. Well i discovered that GM quit(unless they changed by now which i highly doubt) selling a brass sending unit. The stock one has a brass base. Their new one is aluminum. After researching this i found that some people were having problems with the almuinum senders failing prematurely, like years prematurely. Some guys reported to have had them fail just a few months after install. This didnt sit to well with me so i set out to find a brass component. Took me a while as not many carry one but here you go. A bit pricey but worth the security in the end. As you really dont want to go back in there more than once.

Like he said he was new, sometimes it's not that easy to track down info on something if you don't know the ins/outs of the search sections yet and somethimes it's nice to confirm what you find with others more experienced. No slap down was necessary IMO

Yes, does sound like your oil pressure sensor has bit the dust. I've got a few Word files that talk about fixing the problem - if you'd like a copy, PM me your e-mail address.

This is the correct section for all tech inquiries and hopefully answers. Your question is in the proper place so you are fine.
