Thermostat Change
I'm about to replace the OEM thermostat with a 160 degree thermostat. Thought I'd check the GM maintenance manual before I start turning a wrench. The manual states that the thermostat AND housing should be replaced as a single unit. What's up with that? I don't see the need to replace the housing. Does anybody know the rationale for this? Thanks!

What doesnt make sence is why would you want to change to a 160 stat Now, with winter coming in MD.? This is the time when most 160 stat users in the North east go back to a stock stat. Not a real smart idea to be running engine oil below 200 F in an LSX engine, which is what will happen with a 160 stat and winter driving in Maryland.
