I put the Z06 Racemesh grilles on the Vararam after driving it one night and finding bugs on the front the next morning. I figured, it was better to try to catch the crap before it got to the filter than after. Here is a picture after I lowered the vert this morning. It measured 26.5 in front and 27.75 in the back. That was on the stock bolts. Just playing around and thought I's see what it was like lowered...

Does MPG go down after installing Vararam if you don't get a tune? I have one on the way and an axle-back exhaust, don't really want to spend $500 to tune such small mods?
Regards, Eric

I would think your MPG would slightly increase as you will run leaner. Seriously, This intake will pull in a significant more amount of air than the stock box. I personally feel that the increased air level puts the AFR so lean at times it can't fully self correct. Some, not all, will throw a code (possibly ping) and require a tune. I understand $500 can be a lot, but the worst thing you can do with a motor is run it lean.

If you can hold off your install untill you can swing a tune with it (or do more mods to justify a tune) you'll be infinitely more pleased. The VaraRam is an awesome mod that works as advertized.

My mileage went up to 31.6 on a 150 mile round trip to Nags Head, NC with the new Vararam installed.

Note: I did dive 55 mph just to see what type mpg I'd get. So don't take 31.6 to the bank as I go faster than 55 mph every day!

For the vast majority of users a tune is not needed for the mods you are doing.

No issues with the codes, however I took issue with the cheap construction quality and non-fitting of it. Pitched it and went with a Callaway Honker. More expensive yes, but looks and feels OEM quality.

Thanks for the info, maybe I'll shelf it for now and perhaps get some headers, install at the same time and then get the tune. Appreciate the response.

While I like the racemesh screens,I think they are WAYYYYYYY over priced even with the Corvette tax. They are just screens after all!
