Was going to install one of this air intake on my 98 but,I've been told that it make you car throw codes.
is this true and if so why and what need to be done to correct it.
Wondering if it worth it now.
I met a guy about a month ago that had it installed. I asked him how he liked it.
He said he would get a left bank lean code since he installed it.
Now, I was looking thought the parts section and seen an ad where this guy is selling his set up due to left and right bank lean codes.
I though I would ask the question before I put all that work into installing the intake on my car.
You have to ask your self if some of those people that have issues have under lying issues that when the VARARAM is installed, caused the DTCs to pop.
Ive installed THREE VARARAMS to three different cars and none of the cars had any issues or DTCs.
Anytime you add a Mod that changes airflow thru the engine, you most likely going to need to recalibrate the MAF and the the VE tables. If you car is running at the ragged edge of POSITIVE or negative Long Term Fuel Trims, adding a cold air intake isn't going to make the LTFT better.
Examine the LTFT before the addition of any mod . Add the VARARAM and data-log the PCM and see what the fuel trims are doing. If there significantly positive, you need a tune.
Two Vararams on two different Corvettes and never a code even with the power duct.It seems the screenless ZO6's have a few issues.
My 02 ZO6 didnt have issues BUT,,,, fuel efficiency fell off significantly until it was re-tuned. The MAF can sometimes have issues with the added cold and additional air. Once the MAF is recalibrated, it will be fine and your LTFT will be less positive. YES,,the screen helps stabilize the air thru the MAF.
When i replaced my stock airbox, i was blown away by the tiny hole that was in it that the motor was supposed to be breathing through, or should i say being choked by?!?!
Needless to say, the Vette is breathing much better now that it receives its air outside of the engine compartment thanks to the Vararam. I still cannot believe the kick this thing has when you drop the hammer, it just screams!!!
Now I can't wait to put it on.
I'll be done with the rear splash guard mod and HUD install tomorrow. Next will be the veraram install.
Now I need to find me some Z06 inlet grills
I wasn't planning on using grills, but when installing my Vararam, I found a 6" x 8" piece of Styrofoam stuck in my radiator intake, so I decided to add them as a safety precaution.
