Default Anyone defeat borla drone???????

I'm stuck between borla, corsa and now xs-power cat back. I sort of prefer the sound of borla but the drone i've been hearing about scares me. I will have xs-power headers with high flo cats. Does the z06 trunk divider help at all? This is not my daily driver so if it's not too bad I could maybe deal with it. By the way new member here and first post. Glad to meet you all and looking forward to a lasting relastionship

WELCOME!!!!I cant comment on borla, but i can speak on corsa as i do have Corsa Extreme. Corsas have a technolgy that gets rid of the drone in their exhaust you are reffering to. And its true. My exhaust doesnt drone. Its loud! Im actually about to add high flo cats. I am about to purchase your "ZO6 trunk divider" called a partion (now you know) to make it even more quiet in the cabin. Yes it will help. Having cats will help as well. Lol not much but better than w/o. Ive had an LS powered vehicle with drone and i can tell you its really only an annyoance when making a quick phone call or long drives.

Well i'm glad you have a good sense of humor because your going to need it. I'm going to tell you that you are also wrong. It's not a partion but a partition . Sorry, I had to. You'll have to let me know how much difference the partition makes in interior sound. I do love the corsa indy and extreme but also love borlaWhat to do... what to do...

ooooo touche:o...i know what you mean about chosing exhaust....it was my prior experience with drone that kept me from getting the borla. Plus Corsa gives a lil bit of an exotic note i personally enjoy. So corsa it was

i have borla stingers without headers or x pipe [for now] and while i understand what people are calling the drone, it doesn't bother me at all. it's just the sound that the machine i'm driving makes. i personally think the corsa systems, at least the ones i've heard, tend to be a little more on the exotic style of exhaust note to the point of almost sounding 'whiney' at upper rpm's. what style, or what headers or whatever else may be involved i don't know.
i plan on installing the trunk particulator soon also, mostly for a/c and stereo efficiency.

ps: if you take zzo6's response above, and mine, you understand why they make so many different types of systems. individual personal preference is what makes the world go around.

i have a set of borla's loved the exhaust with the factory manifolds , i added a set of ARH headers to my Z06 this summer and all i can say is i'm in the market for a new exhaust and have already bought a set of factory TI's , still looking for a set or corsa's, however under WOT it sounds scarry.

thanks

I wish I could find someone around here with a borla setup in a vette so I could ride in it and hear for myself. Problem around here is you don't really see vettes. mostly just stuff with fart cans. I had an Iroc-z that had terrible drone and I just learned to stay above it or below it. Anyone with borla's speek up!!!!! how tolerable is the drone ????

think you could share a little detail of your before and after headers experience?
i'm looking at the possible addition of the ARH header and high flow cat system in the future, just curious as to the borla's reaction to this.

The Borla sounds too good idling and under light accel with a cam for me to give up on them. But the corsa sounds better I think while accelerating hard. Xs power sounds closer to corsa to me. Would probably be my best bet but I just can't give up on them borla's yet!!!

I had Borla Stingers with headers and no-cats... It's tolerable, but simply too loud for a daily driver IMHO. I was able to swap them with a forum member in Canada for Z06 TIs. I wouldn't mind a little more bark, but they are a great compromise.

Well, I will have cats on mine. I know on my iroc the drone greatly increased when I removed the cats. Not sure if that would be the same in this car or not. I know the vettes I've heard without cats are all to loud for my liking. I'm liking the xs power cat back but I'd almost like to hear it in person with cats. I know jon's sounds sweet but his is camed. Mine is not

I have the Borla part# 140039 system on my car with the Borla part# 60087 X-pipe.. I bought the car with the 140039 system on it, Really liked the sound.. I bought the X-pipe (60087) and to my suprise the exhaust got quieter. It sounds cleaner and doesn't make that gurgle sound on deaccel and more..

I'm leaning towards the Magnaflow Magnapack for my C5. Anyone experience bad drone with this system? Not my daily driver, so doesn't have to be perfect. This system is much cheaper than the others out there, but I know Magnaflow makes a good product. Just isn't that popular with the Corvette crowd.

I have the Corsa Extreme with the XO-Pipe and 4" pro-series tips (#14962) and no drone here and it sounds great not to loud at all. I'm loving my Corsa's. on the borlas some of my club members have them on and they don't have any problems with the sound. the only problem that I heard them say is alignment of the pipes.

I have LG pro long tubes, 3" X-Pipe and Borla Stingers. With the
high-flow cats and a partition I had no drone issues. I recently
melted my cats and had to gut them. I now have a pronounced
drone between 1200-1600rpm and a higher db level. I am putting
stock TI's back on the car.

While at carlisle this year under the exhaust tent. I listened to a magnaflow magnapack exhaust on the c6 and it was imho the best sounding one I heard. It was louder than the ti at idle, had a borla like light accel and almost a corsa indy at wide open. It was the perfect mix for me. When I asked the guy about this system for the c5 he said I think they have it for that to. So we looked in the catalog and then he wasn't so sure if it would be the same exhaust or not. He said it should sound the same on the c5 but I wasn't about to drop coin on "it should be." Still wonder about that exhaust.........

For the OP, if you like the lower pitched Borla Stingers, but don't want drone, try GHL Bullets. The best of both worlds, it's said. Not by me, because I've never had GHLs. They're what I would try next, if there were to be a next time. I had Stingers when the rest of my system was stock, and yes, they did "drone" a bit, but it wasn't intolerable. Stingers would be too loud for me with my current mods. I love my current catback's looks, but the sound isn't my favorite. The only reason I've got the Pace cars (Corsa) is the twin oversize oval tips. Don't get me wrong; they sound great, just higher pitched than some other systems. They are pretty quiet at cruising speeds, and holy terrors at WOT,which is nice.
