Where can I find the most "easy to understand" workings of the C5 clutch? I want to learn more about how the hydraulic portion works. I've read lots of articles on clutch problems and the possible connection of the hydraulic line being restricted. Your honest (no BS) info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Our clutch hydraulics work the same as a cable driven system but with smoother actuation...that's the goal anyway. The restriction in the line from M/C to slave is supposed to make it even smoother but is so small that when the fluid breaks down it can become clogged and make the clutch not engage or disengage properly because of unwanted pressure accumulation at that point in the line. This condition is similar to cable bind.
Another reason for poor clutch actuation is a damaged slave cylinder. It was redesigned for '01 to try and make it more resilient. Keeping the fluid in VGC is the best way to keep it from becoming damaged.
My current clutch combo consists of McLeod M/C, More perf. line, new '01 slave cylinder and McLeod single disk. The difference between it and stock are night and day because there is increased hydraulic pressure. Stock feels very dull and numb in comparison.
Thanks a bunch for the explanation, but I would really like to see some photos or some articles I could read. I'm stuck thinking that the picture really will be worth 1000 words. :)
Thanks in advance for the help!
