On a trip to Florida last week I locked my keys in the Vette. My GM Roadside Service got the car opened for me with no problem or damage. I sure would have been nice to have had OnStar unlock the car and save me from my stupidity. But I understand that OnStar cannot be retrofitted to my 02 Vette.
Anyone know of any way to add OnStar to older Vettes?

Short of spending maybe some seriously stupid money,.........no.
That nice little unlock-the-door ability of OnStar requires a message be sent to your BCM to command the doors to unlock, and that's just ONE area to consider, not to mention your "system" would have to be registered with GM so they would have all the necessary info to transmit to, and from, your car.
Thanks guys - that's what I thought I would get. So........I've got a really sweet 02 vert with door lock switches that work really well plus other really nice mods reasonably priced. Or maybe I'll just make sure that I only lock the doors with the key fob in hand.
Just a bad habit I guess - I just punch the lock switch on the door as I'm swinging my feet out of the car. I'm trying to train myself to only use the fob.
I just NEVER lock either of my Vettes. HELL, most of the time I leave the keys in the shift boot. I have had doors damaged on Chevy trucks that were locked and the thief just wedged under the door handle to unlock it to steel nothing.
I could just see someone CUT my vert top to gain access to get nothing.

I also agree with this.. If a theif wants to do a ****** and grab, they will bust a window. I dont really lock my doors often to avoid obvious stupid damage. Just know what you have in your car at all times. I learned this lesson on my mustang with a new ipod touch they arnt going to just walk away if its locked.
My 98 came with a "spare" key in the owners manual packet. Its like a credit card and it says to keep it in your wallet. AAA used to make the plastic credit card type key a few years ago
