Default 97 C5 battery replacement!!HELP!!

I am wanting to replace the battery in the 97 C5 I just purchased. First any suggestions on what battery to get and secondly is there anything I have to be careful of when taking out the old battery and installing the new battery? I am a novice as far as working on cars, but would appreciate any advice!

Thanks!!

Replaced my battery in my 02 about a year ago with a Duralast Gold from autozone and it has been working perfectly. A lot of people on this forum will give you all kinds of advise on batteries, Optima red top seems to be popular but I have heard a lot of people reporting problems with them. You also cant go wrong with a Delco or Die Hard. Really just a matter of preference they all do a good job. As far as the installation goes it is very easy. The only thing to make sure you have is an an extension of about 12" for you ratchet wrench to get to that bolt that holds down the base of the battery. Everything else is pretty much straight forward and should take you all of about 15 minutes to do. Make sure you always disconnect the negative (Black) cable first and reattach it to the new battery last. Thats it! Good luck bro!

The above advice is right on the money,it really is that easy.I also have a 97 and seeing as you own a 14 yr old car you won't be a novice for long.

Might want to check the date code on the battery. On Delco there will be a letter, probably a "P" followed by three numbers and a letter. The first two numbers are the month of manufacturing and the third number is the year. So P 060 N = June 2010, the last letter is the manufacturing plant.

Stay away from an Optima for a C5.

Wow Thanks for the quick responses guys! I am thinking of going with the AC Delco Professional 78-6yr or 78-7yr batteries. Both seem to be close to original replacements. Also thanks for the info on the Theft Lok radio. That was one of the problems I had heard about! I will check the date on the battery too! Once again thanks so much!
