I'm changing my dual cones to vararam soon and have a few questions
Once I install Vararam will I have to get a different tune or change the tune I have now (full scale dyno tune) due to larger amount of air that vararam should bring? Has anybody switched from dual cones or black wing etc. to Vararam? Did you notice any changes? did the car pull harder after 50mph with Vararam?
Also would my current air bridge from dual cones (Volant intake) fit vararam intake? Or should I get a combo of air bridge and intake?
Thanks
I went from a zip-tie to the VR + PD.I did notice a diff and also got a few lean codes due to the + airflow.
To straighten out the increased/turbulent air flow,I also put in a Halltech Honeycomb screen in my 02Z.Your post didn't say if you have a screened MAF or not.
I had to adjust my Pred tune after the VR+PD install to correct the LTFT's and now the car runs great and mileage is better.
Since it's turned cold here in the south,I also can tell that the LS6 is enjoying the cooler/denser air.
just drive over 55 mph for about 20-30 miles after the install, the computer will adjust. it will like it.
Not true. The stock PCM often cannot compensate for the larger amount of air coming in with the vararam. You don't need a new tune(unless check engine light comes on), but it wouldn't hurt. If you get a tune, I would have them do a street tune. My car didn't have a SOTP difference, but I dropped 3 tenths and gained 2mph in the 1/4 mile. That was untuned as well.

to extent. The stock tuned PCM does adjust a little bit but to take FULL advantage of the vararam a tune will help. If you plan to do headers soon best to do it all at once instead of going back for a retune.

Thanks for your response The problem is that I already have headers and full exhaust, and a dyno tune which cost me 450$( it was well worth it) I would like to get Vararam but if that means paying 400 $ for a new tune then I might rethink that and invest in a different mod.
Whoever tuned the car before you should be able to re-tune it for a very small fee, less than $100. I really wouldn't re-tune it unless you get a code for a lean condition.
Just re-read your last post. They should retune it FOR FREE given they charged you $450 for a bolt-on dyno tune. I paid $300 for mine. The price you paid is for what a cam-only car would cost up here.

lol again....that would be some BS if they charged you out the A!* for a quick tune with the vararam.
I had the dual cone and installed the vararam, no codes. The feeling is night and day over the dual cone intake! I haven't had it tuned yet, waiting to install LT headers before i dump the coin on that.
My car was completely stock (except cat back) when I installed my Vararam. I drove it around town, got a little knocking when I got on it a little bit and then it settled in with no codes and no tune. I did notice a difference in power, especially when I hit third gear. My car laid down 321rwhp with Vararam and GHL’s (now 438rwhp). I am very happy with the V, just take your time installing it. Good Luck.
