Hey all, Thinking about getting my first c5. Went and test drove one today and it was very nice! the only issue I found was that when u just tap the gas in neutral or with clutch in it revs up then likes to keep like 1500 rpms for 2-3 secs then goes back down. When I was in 5th gear I could actually cruise without hitting the gas at about 40-50 mph. Anyone know what this could be? took it to a shop and they looked at the entire car and pulled codes but the only code was tire pressure sensors.
another problem was the speedo was about 10 mph off, Car has a Cam in it so I'm wondering if the car wasnt tuned very good for the cam? causing high idle but im not sure if it would change the speedo? any help is appreciated! Thanks
who tuned the car?Your throttle follower delay and or decay may have been modified to keep the car from stalling when the gas peddel is depressed and released rapidly.
If your rear end gears were changed and your tune not corrected proerly, that might be the cause of your speedo problem.

Unsure on who tuned the car, are the computers easy to take out and have tuned on c5's? or do you have to take them in to a shop to do that? the idle thing doesnt seem to effect anything is just real annoying! Im use to my trans am lol
If your AC compressor is coming on when you start the car it will do that.
I noticed that last winter when I set my defrost to come on when started so I could start the car and let it warm up and defrost the windshield.
Also, the e-brake is also stretched or broke how much/hard is it to fix this?
C5 emergency brake is supposed to self-adjust but mine never has since it was new. Every couple of years I pull off the rear wheels and rotors and tighten the slack. It's a thirty minute job unless something is broken. A very high mileage car may need to have the shoes replaced if the linings are worn out but overall not a big deal.
The idle is NOT normally suppose to do that. It may have a a VACUUM LEAK or it was IMPROPERLY TUNED.
What are you paying for this car???????????????? It may NOT be the one!!!
What else is he hiding or are you missing. Find a seasoned C5 owner/ who is mechanically inclined and get a good opinion on what the car need to run correctly.
That's a very common problem with cammed Vettes. I call it hanging idle, and it's done it every time I changed the intake, or cam, and it can easily be tuned out by a decent tuner. The car may be tuned great for %99 of the time, and the damn idle will still hang. It just takes a good tuner with patience. It's really annoying, eh?
sorry but this may be a dumb question , To tune it out would I just take the car to a shop? How much does this cost? I'm use to my lt1 which you can just pop the pcm out and send it off, never had it tuned another other way. Thanks!

Being it is cammed, I would have it either Dyno tuned or street tuned or BOTH. Depends on the mods and current tune. $500 or less for a good tune....
