Default 2002 base corvette, 6spd.

I have a chance to purchase this car, and need to know what it takes to install a turbo, and make it work with this car. Is it possible? What turbo kit is the best? I want around 500 hp.
Thanks

Go supercharger....

If your goals were higher then turbo's come into play, but for what your after go supercharger and some bolt ons.

How much you have to spend?

I plan on spending $18,000 on the car and another $10,000 on making it faster and better handling. I want it to be a dependable, fast, weekend ride.

yes, you can.

why are you stuck on 500 hp?

that is only 80 more then a stock 02 Z06.

should not be that hard and probably won't need a supercharger to get that.

You just want to have a 500 HP car. It's easy with a Corvette, Z06 or otherwise. Is it 500 RWHP, or just rated HP like the factory?

If you only care to have in the 500hp range and want forced induction with the most reliability, I agree on the supercharger route. My 2 cents= all you'd need is to call up A&A corvette and get a supercharger kit for a little over $5k, and get it tuned. Easy and reliable 500+ hp engine.

I am looking at three corvettes Sunday. One 2002 Z06, one 2002 base model and one 2001 Z06. 500 hp at the flywheel should make 450 at the rear wheels. That would make me happy. I plan on running the Silverstate Race in Nevada, so I want to top 180 mph. Yes, our speed limit here in Calif. is 70 on the Interstate, but it is nice to have extra hp when you need it. I like speed. I have a 800 hp drag car, 400 hp Datsun 240Z V8 with a small block Chevy in it. Plus I am getting old, and the "bucket list" is reality to me.

Odd because I'd expect you'll spend a good chunk of that $10k just to prep it for such an event.
- full roll cage (a little bar behind the seats is not enough)
- fire suppression system
- 5 or 6 point harnesses
- arm restraints / window nets
- head support, ie racing seat with headrest
- Helmet with Hans type device
- racing suit

These cars really are not street cars anymore. You can't slap a supercharger on a C5 and go race in the unlimited class.

You do know you have to run in the slower classes before qualifying for the 180+ class? I think you'd have to run 3 events before you could run unlimited.

I just got a 2002 Lingenfelter Z06 for $26k. 443 RWHP, just enough HP, hard to hook up even with MPS. Thinking I might have to go with M/T drag radials. Gets a little frisky when you hit 3rd and bust them loose.

If top speed is your eventual goal, get a coupe (not a FRC/Z06) body; much more aerodynamic.

02 Z06 is 405HP at crank. I would guess around 350 RWHP.
