I can kick my self in the but for not getting a manual transmission in my 2008 coupe. My question is: You know how you use a manual transmission to slow you down a little- aka.. down shifting. In ya"lls opinion do you think it hurts a auto transmission to do the same? I am talking about going from drive to 3rd at about 45 to 50 mph. Not letting the RPMS get over aprox 4000. Maybe not even as high as 4000 RPMS. One reason I am asking is I am coming up on 26,000 miles and the brake pads haven't been replaced yet so I occasionally down shift trying to keep off the brakes. I dont know, maybe that sounds stupid.
The 2nd part of my question is, how long does the average John Doe get out of the original set of brake pads?
Thanks for the in put and have a great weekend.

Exactly. I can replace my brake pads myself in an afternoon for cheap.
I don't know how to change my clutch myself, and the cost of the clutch is a lot more.
I don't know where that old saying of downshifting saves your brakes came from.... complete rubish.. They forgert to mention the added wear you put on the clutch.

It came from BIG TRUCKS, they also use exhaust brakes. Stupid thing to do with cars.
