I know many have left long threads on this warning message. My 2002 coupe started showing this warning message about 2 months ago. I got the quick blip on the brakes and then the warning message "service active handling" , all the symptoms of the steering sensor failure.
After reading the solutions and contemplating the steering sensor replacement I also found a member who removed the sensor rotated it through a complete rotations left then right then re-installed. Then I got to thinking, why not rotate the steering through a complete rotation left, then right. So i did that at a stop sign a couple or times.
Would you believe I have not seen the message again...but its only been a week.
I am not saying this is the ultimate solution but I will report back in a while and advise on the status.
Check for a failure of the sensor via the DIC message and you should have codes...when you possibly go over a bump like a speed bump. Most likely your sensor is dying on you.
